My History with The “Green Detox Juice”
I can’t lie, it’s been about five years since I used to regularly drink green juice. But I did truly LOVE making smoothies, I suppose the main reason was cause I moved out and no longer had my favourite blender: Blentec 450 (Wildside+). Because honestly, Blendtec is a game-changer. Now that I have a Blendtec again I’m super excited to start making smoothies and juices again.
I first heard of green juices from a family vlog channel we used to watch religiously: Itsjudytime (A really cute family channel that uploads daily!). And Benji and Judy always started them and their kids mornings with something called green juice! It’s more of a smoothie than anything but I think for the kid’s and my sake, juice sounds more appealing.
At the time I was really into getting my life together and trying to live a better lifestyle (blog posts at the time on working out and lifestyle design stuff). So I did like a mega-deep dive into green juice and stumbled upon the most popular one at the time which was a Dr. Oz green detox juice. And then from there I just mixed and matched a bunch of other green juice and smoothie recipes from other blogs until I came up with what you have below!Jump to Recipe
What Is Green Juice Good For?
Personally, I started drinking green juice because I just wasn’t eating enough fruits and vegetables. Eating vegetables and salads always feels so time-consuming and tbh I just didn’t really enjoy eating them. So when I saw Benji and Judy making green juices that even their kids were drinking I thought what better way than getting the right nutrients than by drinking them!
The benefits of green juice really depend on the ingredients you choose which could be an entire blog post on each ingredient. So to not overwhelm you with too much information. a birds-eye view of the benefits of this green juice ingredients are:
- Ginger has lots of antioxidants that helps; digestion, lower blood pressure, good for your lungs, and promotes healthy aging.
Juicing vs Blending
My mom liked blending over juicing cause you probably get more nutrients so I’ve just kind of stuck with that. Cause at the end of the day I’m really only drinking these cause it helps me get my vegetable intake in so whatever extra fibre is in the smoothie I’ll take over juicing that out!
Best Green Juice Recipe
This is the base of all my green juice recipes. but life happens, you might get bored of it so it’s good to keep an arsenal going so while you can always switch out the ingredients on this one for similar types of ingredients. I’m going to compile a list of my favourite green juices and smoothies here:
Healthy Green Detox Juice with Spinach and Ginger
- High Powered Blender Blendtec Wildside+
- 2 Cups Spinach Washed
- 1 Whole Banana Peeled
- 1/2 Large Lemon Peeled and Deseeded
- 1 Inch Ginger Peeled
- 4 Whole Celery Stalks Trim the top and bottoms if they're celery roots
- 2 Large Apples Cored and Optionally Peeled
- 1/2 Cup Water
- Wash and prep your ingredients
- Load the blender. Put in the lighter stuff at the bottom and heavy stuff at the top (I listed them from lightest to heaviest).
- Add the your mixing liquid (water, coconut water, juice, etc.)
- Blend and pulse till it looks smooth! (I think the pulse function takes about 90 secs).
